Obsah: Dvaja úplne odlišní ľudia si spolu zaspievajú na silverstrovskej párty. Pretože sa už neuvidia, vymenia si telefónne čísla. No akoby zhodou náhod sa Gabriella, tiché inteligentné dievča, nasťahuje Alburqeurqe a začne chodiť do tej istej školy, kde chodí aj Troy, kapitán basketbalového družstva a hviezda školy. Pravdaže sa stretnú, no spôsobia tým komplikácie, najmä keď sa zúčastnia konkurzu na zimný muzikál a dosť tým spochybnia účasť rozmaznanej Sharpay a jej brata Ryana v muzikáli. Troyovi priatelia nesúhlasia s jeho účinkovaním v muzikáli kvôli majstrovstvám v basketbale, ktoré sa blížia. Taylor McKessie, nová Gabriellina priateľka, má tiež obavy, že sa tým ohrozí ich víťazstvo vo vedomostnom desaťboji. Chad, najlepší Troyov priateľ, a Taylor spolu zosnovajú plán, ako Troya a Gabriellu rozdeliť.Nakoniec sa im to podarí. No čoskoro to oľutujú, pretože ani Troyovi, ani Gabrielle to nepomohlo, ale skôr uškodilo. Taylor a Chad si uvedomia chybu a napravia to. Obsah: Wildcats si hľadajú letnú brigádu. Troyovi zavolá pán Fulton z Lava Springs Country Club, že ho prijali, a ten s priateľmi odchádza pracovať. Ani zďaleka netuší, že za jeho prijatím je Sharpay, ktorá ho chce dostať a že klub patrí jej rodičom. Keď sa Sharpay dozvie, že Troy prišiel s jej spolužiakmi, robí všetko pre to, aby odišli. Najviac jej vadí Gabriella, s ktorou chcel Troy tráviť letný čas. Sharpay zoznámi Troya s jej vplyvnými rodičmi, s ľuďmi z vysokej školy a úplne ho zmení. Troy si prestane všímať priateľov a sľúbi Sharpay, že s ňou bude spievať na Talentovej šou, ktorá sa v klube má konať. Medzitým sa Wildcats skamarátia s Ryanom, ktorý im bude pomáhať pri vymýšľaní programu na Talentovú šou. Sharpay sa to dozvie a preto im prikáže, že počas Talentovej šou musia pracovať. Gabriellu to nahnevá a nielenže odíde s Lava Springs, ale sa s Troyom rozíde. Nikto sa s Troyom nechce rozprávať a on nechápe prečo. Až keď mu Kelsi ukáže dokument, ktorý hovorí, že musia cez Talentovú šou pracovať, Troy so Sharpay odmietne spievať. Troy sa opäť udobrí s priateľmi. Ryan ho požiada, aby jeho sestru nenechal v štichu a tak sa Troy predsa len rozhodne spievať so Sharpay. No vôbec netuší, že Ryan a Wildcats majú úplne iné plány, že Kelsi napísala novú pieseň a že nebude spievať so Sharpay, ale s Gabriellou, ktorá sa na šou objaví. Všetko, samozrejme, dobre dopadne a film končí veľmi zábavnou piesňou hlavných predstaviteľov.
